National Volunteers

JSHS Volunteers support the program in all aspects of operations, judging, chaperoning, and mentoring students. Leaders from academia, industry, and the Department of Defense encourage and support talented students in many roles.

National Volunteers Roles

You can directly participate and support the National JSHS by:

  • Judging the oral and/or poster competition
  • Moderating the oral competition
  • Presenting your research in a “reverse science fair” type of activity
  • Speaking to students about your academic and career path
  • Monitoring hallways during competition
  • Hosting a laboratory or industry tour

Regional Volunteers

Volunteers are essential to a successful JSHS program. Students enjoy networking with local leaders from academia, industry, and other organizations who encourage them and provide valuable insight into STEM careers. There are many ways to get involved; no matter your background or availability, there is a role for you.

Regional Volunteers Roles

You can directly participate and support your Regional JSHS by:

  • Mentoring a student through a research project
  • Judging
  • Speaking at the symposium
  • Helping at the event
  • Hosting a tour of your laboratory or STEM organization
  • Sponsoring additional awards or scholarships
